Argentina introduces citizenship by investment of $500,000

Argentina's policy in recent years has been aimed at attracting foreign capital. As part of this effort, the Argentinian government announced plans to create a new agency tasked with offering citizenship to foreigners who invest at least US$500,000 in local projects.

This initiative will be the country's first official attempt to link citizenship to foreign direct investment and will continue recent steps to tighten enforcement of immigration regulations on other grounds.

According to government sources, the Ministry of Economy will create a specialized agency to oversee the evaluation and certification of investments. This agency will coordinate with the Ministry of the Internal Affairs, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and the National Directorate of Migration to ensure a simplified process for investors seeking citizenship.

Under this program, investors will be required to invest at least US$500,000 in projects that promote economic development and job creation.

Beyond confirming that investments should be directed toward promising projects, the government did not specify which economic sectors or regions would be prioritized. Analysts expect that sectors such as agribusiness, energy, technology, and tourism infrastructure could be among the key targets, given their potential for scalability.
